Started at 6:30 am on a super hot day. There were bugs down at the bottom, but it got better as you go to a higher elevation. I wore organic bug spray and that helped keep them off me. This particular trail was nice because it cooler and it’s shaded. Lots of greenery, even in July! No snow at all.
It was about 19.5 mi round trip. About 5,400’ elevation gain. Lots of people on the trail. We went on a Saturday. I’m glad I brought trekking poles, they helped a lot!
TONS of huge pine cones on the trail. And I saw a deer as we were driving thru Idyllwild in the morning. Pretty cool!
