Views from Bergen Peak

BERGEN PEAK

At 9,708′ this Colorado Mountain Club “Classic” is a perfect warm-up for the rest of the peaks. And it's just 30 minutes from Denver.

Rocky Mountain is an actual mountain

ROCKY MOUNTAIN

Yes, there is a Rocky Mountain, and this hike climbs 2,500′ to the peak. The first 2,000′ are in the first mile when you take the famous Manitou Incline.

Hopping on Birthday Peak

BIRTHDAY PEAK

Located in the Collegiate Mountains, Birthday Peak provides some off trail navigation fun and a great scramble to the summit. Find Gerry Roach's entry in the summit register!

Last push to the summit of Horseshoe Mountain

HORSESHOE MOUNTAIN

The glacier-carved cirque that forms the epynomous horseshoe is riddled with artifacts from the mining days. This wind-sept peak tops out at 13,898′.

Atop Mt Bierstadt

MOUNT BIERSTADT

At 14,065 feet 2,850′ of vertical climbing, Bierstadt is one of two 14ers in the challenge.

Final push to Grays Peak

GRAYS PEAK

You will climb nearly 3,000 vertical feet to each the summit of 14,270′ Grays Peak. It's the 10th highest peak in Colorado and the highest point on the Continental Divide in North America.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the story behind the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge?

The original Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge was created as a part of a training regimen  for a through-hike of the John Muir Trail. Since then, others have joined the challenge to help them prepare for Mt Whitney and other big adventures. Many others find it challenge enough on it's own!

Completing the Six-Pack in a single season is a feat that few can claim, and great for bragging rights and trail cred.

How do I register for The Challenge?

You can register for the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge selecting one of the three registration levels. Each level offers additional options.

Do I have to register to hike these peaks?

Of course not! You can hike these peaks for free. But if you join the challenge, you become part of the community, support Big City Mountaineers and could win some great gear.

When does the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge run?

You can start logging your hikes beginning August 1st and you must finish and log your hikes by October 31st. Most people will hike the higher peaks in the summer after the snow melts.

Are these group or guided hikes?

This self-paced challenge is designed to fit your schedule and lifestyle. You can hike when convenient for you. Many people will hike one peak a week. Some will hike one a day. Get your friends to join you!

Do I have to hike a specific route up these peaks?

You can hike these peaks from any trailhead you want, but keep it honest. This is meant to challenge you.

Can I substitute (fill-in-the-blank) peak instead of one of the Six-Pack peaks?

Sorry, but no. Think about it this way: You wouldn't get a medal for running the Pikes Peak Marathon just because you substituted the Denver Marathon, right? We may switch up the peaks from year to year.
