Cuyamaca Peak
April 4th, 2020
Me staying at home lasted about a week, hiking is life.
3 take aways from this hike; and then some:
- Parking is closed. The only way to currently do this is to have someone drop you off or park couple miles away. The park itself is open, but again the fire road is closed. “This park is temporarily closed to vehicular access. The park remains open for locals provided they practice safe, physical distancing of 6 feet or more and are visiting parks near their primary residences.”
- The Azalea Glen Trail is pretty carved out, you definitely will not get lost. I saw a ranger on this trail and he just said ‘hello' and proceeded to walk.
- The last part (0.5 mile) when you get to the fire road to the summit is closed. When I went there were people working on the radio tower up at the summit. They will turn you back at any point on the fire road if you are on it, hike the fire road at your own risk.
Extra notes:
- I started at 810am, summited at 10:00am and finished at 11:45am
- don't park on the side of the road, i seen a car get a ticket
- sunscreen if the weather is hot. The hike was pretty simple and easy, definitely something you can bring friends to once this social distancing thing is over.
