My hiking buddy Jason picked me up at 5am and we headed out to Mount Baden-Powell. This is the second peak for both of us in the 2019 SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. We had hoped to drive out on Highway 2, but there was a road closure, so we had to take the long way around to I-15, then through Wrightwood.
We reached the Vincent Gap trailhead just before 7am and were one of the first cars there. I started my track on GaiaGPS at 7:07am, and we headed up the mountain.
We passed on PCT thru-hiker who had dry-camped near the trail and was getting a late start (for the day AND the year). We leap-frogged an older couple on the way up, and had one couple pass us on their way down (the only other people to reach the summit before us).
The weather was beautiful, though I'd prefer a little less sun. Once we reached the summit, we were soon joined by lots of other hikers who started after us. Got our summit shots, and headed down.
I got three mosquito bites along the trail, which was unexpected.
Returned to the trailhead by 11am, then headed into Wrightwood for lunch at the Evergreen Cafe (a favorite stop for PCT thru-hikers, apparently).
My 2nd peak for the 2019 SoCal challenge, and my 11th peak overall.
