Getting into details. Since my last hike the Piestewa Peak, I mentioned it at my BJJ class and now I think we have a small group hiking around. Three decided to join me and my soon. So we planned for Sunday February 17 at 7am. Needles to say the whole group started the hike around 7:30a, some blamed traffic (mainly me!).

Needles to say we started the hike, the trek from the parking to the trail head really helped as a warm up. Once at the trail head, we all started trekking along the Cholla trail. Not sure but it seemed more trafficked then Piestewa Peak, could of been the time of day too. Regardless to say, we started the climb (well it literally began from the parking spot).

We climbed and climbed until roughly the half way point I would say. Then the group got separated in two, the overachievers who wanted to get to the peak right away and us the “we are enjoying the hike” group.  When almost to the peak is when things get interesting.

The trail seems to be quite light, then a wonderful lady pointed to us to follow the blue dots and to be careful and not die since someone sometime ago actually passed away. Talk about me calling at me every time he got further than my arms length. We follow the dots as instructed and reach the peak no problem.

Once day we rested, not too long to get too relax but once ready we began our descent. Coming down was in it self another challenge, it seemed that with our excitement we lost track of the blue dots and made a steep descent, yes away from the trail, we weren't the only ones as we saw people in front of us and behind follow the same path.

Once back on the trail, it was easy peasy.  A few slippery spots but nothing too harsh a butt scoot wouldn't stop.

All in all it was definitely an easier hike that Piestewa, I think with a much beautiful view though.

  1. That is a great picture of the Saguaro! They can use that next time to advertise the Arizona SixPack! I was up there the day before you.

  2. Great trip report! I’m not sure I agree that Camelback is easier. Up to the saddle where the concrete pad is, yes… but after that, the scrambling is much more intense. I suppose the answer is “it depends.” 😉

    1. Absolutely it depends, I was with more people which might make the hike feel easier. Sometimes company make everything better! And thank you for your comment on my report, much appreciated.
