My husband and I started early Saturday morning on my 50th Birthday. The trail was beautiful, with not a lot of hikers on it. It was our first time attempting this hike, and it truly is spectacular. At about mile 4, we met a group of people heading out, who were unable to find the trail due to snow. Undeterred, we kept going, always heading up. There was a lot of snow, super happy that we had our micro spikes. My husband still slid about 30 feet on the way down and broke both his hiking poles. After a while, as we got closer to the top, definitely not on trail, we started hearing the folks at the top. When we finally summitted, we plunged our mini champagne bottles in the snow, enjoyed the view and totally used the Birthday card to skip the line for pics., toasted our success, and leisurely started heading down. The initial route down was sketchy, again with lots of snow. However, as we headed lower, the trail was wide with amazing views! i am so happy that I chose this as my Birthday adventure.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday! Standing on top of Mt. San Jacinto is a great reminder that you are ALIVE! 🙂
