Started at Icehouse Canyon Trailhead (4977ft elevation) at 5:30am. Hiked through Icehouse Saddle to Cucamonga Peak via Cucamonga Saddle. The weather was beautiful, the creek was flowing. I marked the last place to refill water going up (it's before the major climb). Crystal clear views on the way up if you turn around and look behind you. Saw a lot of squirrels. The saddle had beautiful views of west and east. The trail to Cucamonga Saddle was a nice break on the legs. Again AMAZING views the whole way. Saw some interesting “caves” on the backside of Bighorn Peak. From Cucamonga Saddle to Cucamonga Peak was STEEP. But the switchbacks helped. Went to the higher peak for some pictures and lunch. Then located the 6Pack sign and register at a lower peak. Finished lunch, took pictures, and talked to some awesome people. Headed back down to Cucamonga Saddle and up to Bighorn Peak. EVEN STEEPER! Holy cow was this climb hard, especially after all the climbing up to this point. Saw a couple bighorn sheep!!!! After summit, went down a steep false trail toward Icehouse Saddle only to realize it leads nowhere, so I had to climb back to the peak. What a disaster!! DO NOT TAKE THIS FALSE TRAIL!!! ITS DANGEROUS AND DOES NOT MEET ICEHOUSE SADDLE!!! The descent to Cucamonga Saddle was brutal on my dead legs, but the hike from Cucamonga Saddle to the trailhead was 90% welcomed downhill. Talked to some backpackers headed to Kelly Camp! Nice folks! At the end of it all, I was dead beat tired but this was a perfect day for the hike!!! Great training!!!
