Getting a later than usual start of 7AM, we began the trek up San Jacinto. About a mile or more in, already at 7500′, we were above the low cloud cover left from Saturday's rain. Baldy, Cucamonga, and Ontario popped above the rolling fields of puffy white clouds. San Bernardino and San Gorgonio loomed large in the distance. It reminded me of looking out a plan window. After about 2 miles of very steep climbing, the trial mellowed out with gentle switchbacks that had a few steep parts. Once we reached Little Round Top Campground there was a nice stretch of flat trail (and a latrine) before the final push of about a mile and a half to the peak. The mileage on the trial signs is off about a half mile or so, be warned. Also, the final tenth of a mile is a rock scramble, not a difficult one if you are tall like me but a few in the group who were shorter struggled a bit. All in all a very chilly but reward 360 degree view from 10,834′ of Southern California. It was still very cloudy to the west but the ocean could be seen if you have good vision.

Thanks Jeff! Will finish my 6th and 7th this weekend and continue my quest to do all 12 before November.
