We paid our fee at the Visitor Center, then tried to drive to King Canyon Trailhead, only to discover the road was closed for a running race. Headed back to the Visitor Center for advice on how to get to the trailhead. We were told we could either wait 'til noon when they would reopen the road, or drive all the way around to enter from the east side. We chose to park just up the road from the visitor center and walk the extra 2 miles on the road just to get to the trailhead. In hindsight, that added a lot of mileage onto an already long day…probably wouldn't do that again.

The scenery was nice, but to be honest we were kind of hoping to see more wildlife. We put this hike in the books, but it wasn't one of our favorites.
