We obtained a permit in advance to camp at Round Valley, so we backpacked in from the top of the aerial tram and spent the night. The next morning we summited San Jacinto well before the crowds arrived, so we had the peak almost all to ourselves. The hike offered beautiful views; there were peaceful streams and still some patches/small areas of snow on the ground. The weather was comfortable during the day and cool in the evening.

That was a great idea to spend the night to avoid the crowds. We also did that when we hiked Half Dome in Yosemite. We hiked in and spent the night in Little Yosemite Valley and got up early (started out at 6:30am) and were the only ones on Half Dome, besides the marmots! When we headed down off the dome, there were hundreds of people on the cables, slowly coming up.
