To conquer Mt. Lincoln you will most likely want to do Mt. Lafayette and Little Haystack Mountain, too.  Although demanding from a total ascent (about 4000 feet) and distance (about 8 miles) point of view, it is one of the easier trails in New England because it involves very little scrambling. Much of the trail is well maintained and steps make ascending and descending relatively easy. Give yourself 8 hours is you want to take breaks to enjoy the scenery and want to take time for some hot soup or cookies at Greenleaf hut. Also, be prepared for unexpected, windy and cold conditions, even if things look good as you head out. The walk up Falling Waters trail is more interesting than most trails below the treeline because you hike along a stream and waterfalls part of the way. When you break through the trees the views become breathtaking and stay that way all along the ridge. On your way down the Bridle Trail you have amazing views of the ridge you just hiked. My favorite day hike in New England.
