Most people hike this from the Trail Canyon Trailhead. We took the longer route from North Loop because we intended to also climb Fletcher Peak on the same hike.
It was hot on Friday, and the scramble up the scree field tedious. The views from the top were beautiful, but when we descended, we had to climb again the the Fletcher Peak junction and were spent.
I saw the Rain Tree near the junction to Fletcher Peak—a towering bristlecone pine that is older than the pyramids. Hat tip to backpacker Josh for the info. 🧢
Drank 4 liters of water. 💦
I’ve got much respect for anyone who climbs this monster of a mountain.
