I had been looking forward to trying this hike and it really was beautiful! I went up the Azalea Glen trail to Conejos trail to the fire road and decided to come back the same way. The mapped route has you come back on the fire road, but I wasn't interested in the fire road and wanted a longer hike (10.1 miles total). I waited for a warm up in the weather to avoid the ice some encountered and boy I am glad I chose this hike. There was a stream babbling alongside part of the Azalea Glen trail and the intense smell of fresh pine towards the top of the Conejos Trail and the absolutely STELLAR views. The trail was easy in some parts and rocky and difficult in others.
