Chose this hike due to it being at fairly high elevation and not wanting to push myself too hard the week before my first attempt at San Gorgonio. I had read about cars being broken into at the parking lot and ended up driving a beater car with everything in the car removed and hoped that my windows did not get smashed out. I didn't realize how far a drive it was to get to the trailhead and I was tired from the 2 hours of driving to get there. Started the hike at 7:15am. The steepness of this trail starts immediately and is maintained the entire way. This was a short and steep hike to the summit and we reached the summit around 9:30am. After photos and a quick meal, we headed back down and reached the car by 11:30am. It was nice to start early to stay in the shade and out of the sun. This was a nice hike but stressful due to the unfortunate breakins which can occur in the parking lot. Although I did not have any issues, there were others that weekend who did. Wish that there was more ranger oversight there. If heading to this trail I'd recommend doing it as a day hike as it appears that the majority of breakins occur to folks hiking overnight when there are less people in the parking lot. Having nothing valuable in the car is recommended as thieves are known to even take your car insurance and registration info. Trailhead shenanigans aside, the hike itself was nice.
