Hike Log

Baldy the HARD way via Bear Canyon Trail

Trailhead:

Bear Canyon Trail

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were not too bad

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

Probably the hardest hike on the list but so beautiful!  Taking this trailhead is so much better than the other routes to the top.  Very few people on this trail in comparison to the ski hut trail or coming from the Knotch.  But it is tough!  Uphill 5,700 feet with very few flat or down spots.  Plus it was warm even at 5 a.m. when we started.  A few bugs in the first two miles but not too bad.  Definitely bring your hiking poles though as the trail has a lot of loose rock and it’s easy to slip.  10 hour total hike with it being 6 hours up and 4 hours to get down.  It’s the only way I will climb Baldy from here on out… however the ski lift down the mountain sounded pretty good about half way down! 🙂

  1. Bravo!
We attempted the hard-way several weeks ago and the snow and wind did us in!
So bummed, we didn’t summit. We had about 1/2 mile left.
Agree, this is the way to go, few people, beautiful, but more challenging with snow.

    We’re going on June 30th.
    Be well
