Trail snow-covered at times – Gear and expertise recommended
Bright sunny day but windy around 30F. About 90% of the trail was snow-covered with patches of frozen snow. Yaktrax did fine but snow-pack always slows the pace.
Struggled much more than I expected in the first 2 hours and only covering 2 miles as MS fatigue was setting in but was able to crank it up after a 15 min rest. So overall it was a slow pace as it took 4 hours to summit (2 hours to descend).
Some days the health is sub-optimal and was close to having to quit but a rest and lowering my body temperature turned things around.
Overall it was my first time on that trail and it was very enjoyable with the snow keeping the trail not busy at all.
GPS units tracked it as 5.2 miles one-way and around 2100' of total ascent.
Finished with beers at Evergreen Tap House and Brewery.
Another great day in the Colorado outdoors!
