This one was a late afternoon hike, almost like a sunset hike. The first big surprise was that Memorial Day is a Fee Free Day and no passes were required for parking at the trailhead. I found this out when I went to the pay station and pressed the button to activate it and lo and behold, the message showed up on the display. It was 3:00 pm in the afternoon but because the write-up said it was doable in 4 hours, I was confident I could finish the hike before sunset and the end of daylight. For the most part because it was late afternoon I had most of the trail to myself both on the way up and on the way down. I did come across hikers coming done on my way up.  It wasn't a hot day. In the distance there were clouds that threatened to cover the sun but it didn't. The trail itself was easy to follow with more than enough of the white trail markers to show which way to go. There were parts that I had to scramble reminding me of the Siphon Draw Trail to Flatiron and the Echo Canyon trail to Camelback Mountain but thankfully no 8-feet vertical walls to scale. There were sections of the trail both on the way up and the way down where I walked using what I had learned last year about ascending and descending on an incline on friction rock. It took me about 2 hours to reach the summit, arriving there at about 5:10 pm partly because I took a lot of breaks and photos and I took my time. I reached the summit and had it all to myself for a few minutes until another hiker named Brandon arrived. We took each others pictures.   I started heading back down the trail at around 5:30 pm with a goal to reach the  flat area of the parking lot before 7:31 the projected time for sunset. A few yards from the summit I met a few more hikers who were just arriving below the summit and they were happy when I told them that they were almost there–they really were.  They later caught up with me on my way down since they wanted to get down faster while I took my time.   I made it to the parking lot at 7:47 but there was still daylight and enough time to spare.  It felt good.
