The 243 was closed off the 10 so we took the 74 to the 243 through Idyllwild. They are doing construction and the crews are escorting drivers through the zone. This was a slight annoyance as it added significant driving time. I’d guess about 30 minutes to the trailhead and 45 leaving. On to the hike..a slow 5:15 to summit the 6.5 miles with approximately 4400 ft elevation gain. 30 at the top and 3 hours for the return trip. Total time on trail 8:45..allow extra time for the construction, steep in sections, bugs everywhere in morning, plenty of shade, leave early enough to beat the tram takers. Overall a plus hike with a true feeling of solitude and a sense of accomplishment for myself, a novice hiker. #5 of 6.
