Hike Log

Black Butte

Trailhead:

Historic Black Butte (Lower Trailhead)

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

No bugs

Snow:

Snowfields to cross – could be difficult

First hike in a couple months, about 10 miles and 3500 feet of elevation gain. It kicked my butt, altogether took about 4 hours and 40 min. Views from the summit were 100% worth every second and would definitely do this again.

  1. Great job, William! Where did the snow start (~ how far from the top)? Also, was there anyone parked at the upper trailhead?

I hiked this from the lower trailhead back in February, but I want to plan a couple more conditioning hikes on Black Butte in May.

  2. The snow started from the upper trail head, in the shade /tree cover is very icy and towards the top maybe a foot to 2 feet of snow in some places. There were very few people there and only saw them on the way down.
