I started this hike / trail run from the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve parking lot, which added more miles to my overall effort, and along more less-traveled trails. Mt Woodson is an immensely popular local hike, and many people hike up from the Ramona side, which is just under 2 miles along a steep service road. Hiking up from Blue Sky / Lake Poway is also popular but less crowded, with better views and more challenging trail conditions. At peak hours there is an actual line of people waiting to get the infamous photo op on the Potato Chip rock itself; however, on this late afternoon it was relatively light.
