Devil’s Lake

Type of Hike:

Overnight

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were an annoyance

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

We were weary about this one given trail reports. There were mosquitos, but not as bad as I have seen in many alpine areas and easily controlled with bug spray. Has been hot all week, so a lot of snow melted. A few snow fields to cross but limited. Camped overnight at Moraine Lake. Easily got 7day on advance permit by checking day it became available. Heat wave elsewhere, but cooler at higher elevations. Super windy at camp and along ridge line section of climbers trail – like getting sandblasted while worried about also getting blown off. Summit was amazing! Great views (especially south; north was smoky), low wind, and limited people.
