Tuesday afternoon late after work I drove to the trailhead and hiked to High Creek Campground. Got there by 7:00 pm. Temperatures dipped quickly from about 100 degrees near Jucaipa to below 60. I could hear two other people at the campground, but didn’t even saw them. The next morning I left my tent up and summited easily and leisurely without the load in about 2 hours. There are still snow fields, but not on the trail. It was drizzling and a bit chilly, good for a hike. On the way back I could make coffee at camp and sketch a bit before packing up and starting the slog down. It is a long hike and breaking it up this way made both commuting to/fro and the hike itself more peaceful. The sense of accomplishment when submitting the highest peak in SoCal is a great reward!
