This was a second attempt to get to the summit. Earlier this week I attempted to summit but due to time constraints I turned back about a mile from the summit. The road to the trailhead should only be attempted in a 4-wheel drive with a decent clearance as there is a part that is sandy.  There were fewer people on this trail in part probably due to the route to get here.  The trail was relatively easy to follow but closer to the peak, it weaved in and off the ridge and there were parts that were not clear.  The final climb below the peak was definitely a scramble.  It was well worth it though – with the namesake chunk of quartz at the summit.  I stayed for a while before heading down.  I got back to the car and by the time I had left the unpaved route and was back on paved streets there was still daylight. A good way to cap the challenge.
