Castle Peak is a steep but short hike up for some great views.
Parking is at the small lot at the end of the paved road, there are some places also to park along the road. Â Some with high clearance/4×4 vehicles will go further up the dirt road to park, but beware today on the way back there was a truck that had gotten stuck.
Currently there is still a section of snow patches about 1/8th of a mile long ending just before you turn to head up to the pass.  There  are two patches of snow along the ridge.  The snow patches are all manageable to cross over, poles are helpful for the snow and scree further up on the trail.
I hiked over to the true summit and scrambled up a bit before turning back, it was too technical for my comfort. Â I headed back to the first false summit that most people climb, it is less technical and a fun climb with great views. Â Enjoy!
