I finally finished my first Peak ~ a little unnerving to set out at 10:00 a.m. with temps in the mid-80s! I took the Azalea Loop from the parking to enjoy some trail and get acquainted with my new hiking poles. Glad I did, as 1.5 miles on the fire paved road to the peak was intense! Very warm, although lovely breezes increased through the ascent. Definitely had to slow my pace on the steep grade, and I was grateful I had plenty of water on hand.

View from the top is spectacular ~ lots of various birds contributing to the peacefulness of the summit! Spent some time taking it all in before heading back down to the campground via the fire road. This route totaled 7.6 miles, with 1,790 altitude gain, which was perfect!
