One of my favorite hikes, but this day was exceptionally tough. I started at 5 AM and you could smell the smoke from the Apple Fire 50 miles away. The air was hot and unusually dry soon after the sun came up. From the summit you could see the gigantic plume of smoke just south of San G. The fire is only 35% contained as of Aug 8, but fortunately the damage to property has been minimal, and no lives were lost ????
