Cucamonga Peak via Icehouse Canyon solo hike today. Almost turned around at the saddle with fog and high winds but just around the corner the trail got much better. 12.55 miles / 5 hrs 14 min / 4,337 feet of elevation gain. The view from the summit was a sea of fluffy clouds which makes the mountains in the distance look like islands.

  1. Great job on sticking it out and summiting. I was on Santiago the day before looking over that sea of clouds at the San Gabriels. Pretty much every peak was above the clouds looking like an island. I haven’t yet decided how or when I plan to do Cucamonga. Part of me wants to do Baldy, Cucamonga and Ontario in a day, but the other part of me says to take it easy and do some group hikes. Decisions, decisions! ;p

    1. Thanks! I almost added Etiwanda in but I had plans and had to try to hustle. I’ve done Cucamonga, Big Horn, and Ontario in one day and it’s a long one. Especially in that order because you end up taking the goat trail up to Big Horn which is basically vertical. Nice thing about Icehouse is you have so many choices… You can basically do whatever you want, as much or as little!
