Hike Log

Cuyamaca in the Snow

Trailhead:

Fire Road from Paso Picacho

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

No bugs

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

Fire Road trail remains officially closed but not sure why. Paved road all the way to the top with the upper section mostly covered in snow. Very little equipment on the side of the road & no PG&E crews working on Saturday (with the amount of snow present, they probably aren't even working during the week). I wasn't looking forward to pavement, but the snow really made it enjoyable (poles help). Steady climb all the way to the top and the snow made the descent very easy on the feet & knees. With it being such a short hike, you might consider adding Stonewall Peak to this day hike (adds 3.4 miles & 800′ of elevation).
