Mt. San Jacinto via Devil’s Slide Trail

Elevation: 10,834 ft
Elevation Gain: 4,229 ft
Total Distance: 16 miles

This is my favorite trailhead for San Jacinto. The trail is not as steep and there is an option to add Tahquitz Peak if you have the time. The saddle junction is 2.5 miles into the hike, with an additional 1.7 miles to Tahquitz. There is a lookout tower at the summit and incredible views.
.
You will need a permit to hike from this trailhead, issued free at the Idyllwild Ranger Station. Use the permits in the Devil’s Slide holder; they will be pre-stamped with Devil’s Slide as the trailhead, and the date. The regular white permits are the wrong ones for this trail! Just be aware.
