Nice hike with good views as you go up.  Gradual incline the whole way up.  Some flies seemed to irritate the dogs out the way.  Lots of bugs/flies at the lookout.

Really enjoyed the hike but would not take our dogs again, especially in the summer.  Even on a mild summer day the ground can get way too hot for them if the sun is out at all.  It also seemed that the sand and gravel from the road irritated their paws by the end.

This is an nice well maintained dirt road but still felt like just a nice wide trail to us.  The road was closed to vehicles (other than Forest Service) so you we never saw any cars drive by us.  Not sure if it is always like that.
