This was my 2nd peak in San Diego County as part of the 2020 Challenge. This was one strenuous hike! We got off to a bit of a later start than we wanted. I would highly recommend earlier in the morning (we started at 8am) due to not much shade. This does not seem to be a busy trail but we did pass a few folks enjoying the outdoors on the President's day holiday. The start of the trail is marked but there were a few places where we lost it and ended up scurrying under barbwire to get back on track. Once on the actual trail it was clear. This is a steep incline for the first 2 miles. More or less a single track. Definitely worth a pause now and then to admire the views of Mt San Jacinto, Big Bear, Mt. Baldy to the north. The chaparral is high so there was a fair amount of shade for those first two miles. The trail leads to the dirt fire access road and that becomes the next 5 miles to the summit. The road was fine but there is very little shade. The elevation climb once we hit the road was not as steep as the first two miles. The views were great.  We didnt see a lot of wildlife other than a few squirrels and a rabbit. The peak was hit by a storm the week before so there were a lot of fallen trees laid out across the road. There were still patches of icy snow in some of the shade areas. We had the summit to ourselves which was nice. The picnic tables at the lookout tower were a nice treat. It was a peaceful place. The wind was light and temps were in the low 60s at the top. If you have feet or knee issues with steep inclines/declines I would recommend hiking poles and good traction on your shoes. I wore trail running shoes but couldve done with more traction on the way down. Bring lots of water.
