This hike was a relaxing one. The weather was sunny but it wasn't hot due to the cool wind. The soil was different from the other ones in this specific Challenge with the black sand and all but the trail itself was like one big fire road all the way to the summit. The only part that could barely be called “steep” was in the last section just before the summit but even that was not bad.  No one appeared to be at the tower despite the hours being listed as from 0800-1630 so I didn't go up but just signed the register at the bottom of the tower stairs.  Not too many flowers on the trail and the trees were mostly of the evergreen kind but there were a few instances of fall color I saw on this trail. And the view of Sunset Crater alone was worth the hike. The only hikers I met were those at the parking lot, and those on the way back. I had the trail all to myself for most of the way up and all of the way down. I estimated it would take me at least 5 hours to complete the hike, I did it in 4 and a half hours.  Not bad. And with that, the Arizona Summer Six-Pack of Peaks for me ended on Land O'Leary.
