Extra mileage

Trailhead:

Chantry Flats

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road impassable/closed

Bugs:

No bugs

Snow:

Snow free

The road that leads to Chantry Flats trailhead was blocked due to the government shutdown. I parked in a residential area, on Arno street, without any issues. The distance from there to the trailhead is 3 miles of continuous incline. Trailhead conditions were  a bit damp, I slipped on a rock and fell pretty hard…trekking poles would’ve been helpful. Hike payed off with the pretty views of scattered snow at the peak, and being above the clouds is always a plus!

  1. Hi Jeff,

according to maps I logged 16.5 miles. This day totally didn’t turn out as planned. I didn’t descend the mountain because my friend was afraid he wouldn’t be able to make it down before dark since his legs were cramping (it was his first time bagging a peak). We walked for about 6 miles on the road before we hitched a ride (bad idea!!) to La Canada & then took a Lyft ride back to our vehicles on Arno Street. Does this summit still count since I took a different route down?
