The trail overall is in excellent condition. After crossing the dry creek, that first 1.5 miles is for real (and feels worse coming down). We enjoyed a partly cloudy ascent and had the peak to ourselves for 40 minutes. I did feel the slight affects of altitude sickness after 9,500 ft, but nothing too bad, just took it slower to the top. As a 20-mile day hike, this is not one I'd recommend to too many people. I was definitely jealous of the campsites we passed on the way down, knowing that could be the end of your day! But we made it AND turned around the very next day to ascend San Bernadino!!
