San Gorgonio Peak. We took the trail from Vivian Creek and camped at High Creek Camp. The parking lot was empty when we got there at around 6 am. But watching the lot the next day, the parking fills up quickly at the 8 and 9 am area.

The first part of the hike is a slight incline through the campground and a foresty trail. Once you cross the creek it is a very steep incline for about a mile. After the mile, you need a permit to hike the remainder of the trail.

Vivian Creek trail is the first campground you will hit and is above the trail near a good source of water. Next campground you will hit is Halfway Campground. This is located about halfway from the trailhead to High Creek Camp. The distance to High Creek from Halfway is quite a while, so don't get discouraged. High Creek is the last area where you will be able to get water. Overall, with heavy packs on, this took us about 5 hours to hike to High Creek.

Next phase is a long set of switchbacks. This area is where you will hit your first bit of snow, but most of it has melted off and not difficult to cross.  You don't need any special equipment. After the switchbacks, you will be leaving the foresty area, and start the hike up old greyback.

You lose the trail a little bit near the top, but just keep following the ridge, and you will hit the main trail. To get from High Camp to the summit took about 3 hours.

The top is very windy and cold. Overall, I think it was in the 90's in the flatlands, but the mountain was very comfortable in a long sleeve baselayer, with the summit needed a jacket.

At night, High Creek got really windy, but not too cold.

Last thoughts of this trail. It's a beautiful wooded hike, with ancient trees. Water wise, I was able to get away with a liter up until High Creek Camp. I filled up there, and almost ran out getting to the summit. If you want to go minimal weight, you could get away with 1/2 liter till Vivian Creek. Fill up there, then fill up at High Creek. I'd carry two liters to the peak when I do it again just in case, but you could get away with one.

Overall, I think this hike is very doable in a day with a light pack. The trail is very defined except for a small portion near the peak. So even if it's your first time, there isn't any danger of getting lost. There is also very little danger on the trail, ie no hiking along cliffsides.

Here is a video of the entire trail from parking lot to summit.
