Snowfields to cross – could be difficult

Bonanza Peak is by far my favorite at of all the Peaks in the Las Vegas challenge! The eighty plus switch backs make the elevation gains tolerable.
About 3/4’s of the way up we hit the first snow field covering the trail. While it was about 36°when we started I figured it would warm up enough to soften the snow and not be so sketchy on the way down. So, I wasn’t too worried for our return trip down.

Now once we cleared the snow fields and hit the saddle it was all smooth sailing from there. The trail was clear and we were able to reach Bonanza Peak pretty fast. After spending some time at the top snacking and taking photos of the amazing view’s on both sides of the mountain range.

Once we were done relaxing we started off strong and making great time down the mountain until we hit those same snow patches we went through on the way up. The patches I thought that would melt down a bit didn’t and made it very difficult to pass through as everything was iced over. I do not recommend attempting this trail this late in the season. If you do not have experience hiking in the snow or micro spike experience please do some research first if you plan on trying this trail out this late in the year.

Once we cleared the snow patches it was smooth sailing all the way down to our truck! Don’t wait this late in the hiking season to do this hike.
The views were awesome and the trail was easy to navigate!
