Well back for San G. Absolutely adore sections of this hike, just as much as the challenge. Last year I camped at High Creek, this year I decided two weeks out from Whitney, that doing this as a day hike was a much better workout.

I hit the trailhead at approximately 0520 as the sun was starting to make itself known. I flew up to High Creek and from there slowed slightly, but in about 4.5 hours I was at the summit. As has become my ritual, cracked open a frothy and took in the view. San Jacinto in one direction. Big Bear and the Sierras in another and LA in the other. This hike isn't for the faint-hearted, but nor is it impossible. If you want a challenge, give this a crack. Mty favourite part of this hike is easily the walk through the Redwoods and pines up to High Creek. So gorgeous.
