Attempted this hike twice
First time was with my puppy who made it up to the peak but was not able to descend due to the hot weather that day. Luckily a local sheriff was there and gave us a ride down. Still proud of my dog for making it up though it was tough.
Second attempt I did it solo and everything was fine up until reaching the peak, there was a huge smoke cloud coming from Chantry Flats. A ranger/observatory personnel advised us to evacuate as soon as possible. A sort of panick/survival mode instinct kicked in for the few people that were at the cafe waiting for further instructions. After an hour a couple headed down and I followed. The smoke was heavy, every breath taken you can taste and smell the fire making it a bit more difficult do ascend.
Luckily we made it out fine with over a hundred fire fighterers at the trail head putting out the fire. Mt Wilson definitely did not want us to leave the peak lol very different experience fork the other peaks
