I woke up early and drove Drove almost 2 hours out to Warner Springs in order to beat the heat. Started just before 7am with the temp already in the mid 70's. The first 2 miles is the bulk of the steep climbing and is mostly exposed. Once I hit the forest, I had some good shade, but the mosquitoes got worse. I ended up covering my entire face with my neck gaiter until I made it near the mountain top. I had a peaceful snack up top as I was overlooking Warner Springs and Borrego Springs. You can also see Palomar Mountain. I was the only person out there as the temperature did rise above 100 degrees. FYI, the trail is on an Indian reservation and there is a $10 per person fee.
