I’ve only done the Chantry Flats route before and this Sierra Madre route is STEEP!
The way you was great and shaded.  The way back we ended up pretty exposed on a 95 degree day.
I wouldn’t suggest doing this hike in a super hot day, or if you do, start in the middle of the night.
