Took me a month to get around to logging this hike so, I apologize as a trail report would have been nice for folks 3 weeks ago. For a complete visual on this trail on April 27th please take a look at the posted link.
The day was absolutely gorgeous! Temperatures were in the low 70's at the trailhead in the early afternoon when I returned. The trail past Icehouse Saddle was questionable at times. I'd say microspikes were almost a must although, I met some younger dudes who did not use any and made it up and back just fine. Spikes certainly helped provide improved traction on the slushy ice. The trail more or less disappeared after that saddle after Icehouse Saddle. Off trail for most of the way to the top from that point. Not overly dangerous at that point, but it moved the bar up on the difficulty level. Many people turning back at that point and many going to the top. I'd suggest that one should be comfortable with knowing their confidence and skill level and taking their time. I'm not trained in mountaineering, but hike plenty in icy conditions. This was at my level otherwise I would have turned back for sure.
Be safe and know your limits, ultimately don't take unnecessary risks. Have fun, that's what it's all about.
