Went for the big one on Independence Day Weekend! I am sure glad that I have been hiking for a while before taking on San Gorgonio. It was still a very difficult trail at elevation. There were a few mosquitoes at lower elevation, but none seemed to bite. Due to the bugs at lower elevation and the exposure at high elevation, I would recommend long sleeves and long pants. The toughest part about this as a day hike was the high elevation and distance covered; I needed every hour of daylight. I'm still not sure how I didn't feel the earthquake. I must have been too focused on my descent. Trail conditions on the lower half of this trail are the best I've ever seen in a wilderness area; great job to those who do trail maintenance here. It was great to finally get a high elevation hike this season without snow on the trail! Leave your microspikes in the car or at home for this hike. There was some snow near the summit, but not on the trail. Weather was perfect. A little warmer and it would have been too hot. Clear skies and no wind, even at the summit! Getting ready for another long one next weekend, San Bernardino Peak! Thank you to everyone else who has written trail reviews. Many have helped me prepare. Looking forward to finishing the “Four Saints!”
