Oh Kendrick! This was our 2nd time hiking Kendrick and WOW were we surprised. Last summer we had a great 4th of July hike on Kendrick and it was pretty but nothing spectacular. Now for this particular grand finale hike ol' Kendrick decided to put on a big show and let us know how very wrong we had been. First, we are shown fields and fields of bright blooming neon mullein contrasted with the dark brown of burned tree trunks. Then giant clusters of fern, all different golden shades of fall. Mixed with all those colors were these beautiful bright pink stems and leaves – don't know this plant but I would like all these colors in my life always please. The switchbacks are fun and keep getting more fun. It's slightly defeating but also really cool to see the lookout from the very bottom and realize we will soon be way up there. Made it to the cabin and were pretty much surrounded by Pinon pine cones galore. Deliciousness. There were a bunch of tents set up but no one around. Also a bunch of water jugs. Maybe people doing work on the cabin? Made the final trek to the peak and whew…the incredible 360 views. Kendrick def has the coolest hang out pad of the SF Peaks. We had a #letskeepitwild bag to pick up litter and decided it would be happy to be used to collect a couple Pinon pinecones instead. Can't wait for our delayed treats once they open. Perfect hike to end our summer Six Pack of Peaks Challenge!
