Solo hike – Gorgonio via South Fork today. The photos don’t explain the whole situation as the don’t cover most of the descent. Beautiful warm day this morning as I started around 7:30, a little later than intended. Summited in just under 4 hours and as I approached the summit I saw some clouds forming. Weather forecast was light rain. As I left the summit it started to drizzle, then hailed, then I heard the first thunder crack.
From there the majority of the descent was pouring rain and a lightning storm. I ended up linking up with another solo hiker who had been camping near dry lake and we came down together and I was glad for the company as it was one of the crazier experiences I’ve had on our mountains. So funny to get back to San Clemente and it’s just a beautiful beach day…. Stoked on my overall time as it’s my fastest Gorgonio time ever and feeling good about Whitney in 2 1/2 weeks.
19.52 miles / 7 hours 11 minutes / 4,436 feet of elevation gain.
