It was our fourth peak to climb in the challenge and it was the easiest one. The last 0.9 mile to the trailhead is quite a bumpy drive on a gravel road. We started off from Mother Lode Trailhead. There are 3 different trails that you can use to climb to the summit, and it is easy to make a loop. We did a loop using #808a trail up (the shortest one) and #804 trail down (the closest to the Mother Lode mine). It is a more remote location and the trail is very lightly trafficked. We saw only 2 people on the entire hike. The trail is very pleasant to walk, as it goes throughout forest and sagebrush open areas. There is a snow shelter not far from the summit that is worth checking out for curiosity’s sake. Baneberries and twisted stalk berries were in abundance along the trail. We also saw two deer during our hike. The Mother Lode mine was an interesting stop on our way back.
