It was a bit of an impromptu hike. We needed a workout, weather conditions were meh, but it felt so good to be out there it was worth it. A few patches of ice started below treeline, then right before we broke out the trail became moderately snow covered. Should have brought the crampons for the descent from Mailbox – microspikes were okay but we had to stop frequently to unball the snowy mix that collected on the bottoms.
I had a similar experience on Granite Mountain. I was IN the clouds. Still awesome to be out on the trail.
Half the time I hike that one I get no (or very limited) views… I’m with you. 🙂
