With one week till Mt Whitney, I figured I would spend a day switchbacking. Got to the parking lot at 545am and there were already 10 plus cars. The drive to the trailhead was amazing and you spend a solid hour just ascending and enjoying the views. I even stopped for a few photos at 5am as the sun rose. The weather was in the mid 60s already at the that hour. Surprisingly the bathrooms are open but use with caution and/or hazmat suit. The hike as a whole is fairly straightforward like most people stated. The trail itself is narrow but people were courteous to pass. After the first mile is a nice bench to snap a photo or 2. After mile 3 the switchbacks narrow in length as you make your final ascent. About a quarter mile or closer from the peak is the cool 1500 year old tree everyone talks about. It’s worth a photo for sure plus the view behind it was amazing. On that note, the views don’t get great till after mile 3.5 so you can save your phone battery till the peak for photos. The summit was a little windy but the views were beautiful at that hour and the flag is fun to take pics with. I made it back to the trailhead by 945 so 4 hours in total including a 45 min lunch. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning! Happy hiking y’all.
