With Mt Wilson closed, I decided to venture out to Orange County for better air quality. Started at the San Juan Loop trailhead at 6am and was the only person there. The hike is pretty straightforward for the first 4 miles with little elevation gain. I will say the bugs were terrible and I almost turned around at one point as they were basically laughing at my bug spray. The last mile was no joke and probably the entire elevation gain of the whole hike crammed into a short distance. I didn’t bring poles but wish I had them. Once at the peak, the views were gorgeous and you could even glimpse old greyback in the background. I basically ran down to avoid the bugs and got back to the trailhead by 10am clocking about 10 miles round trip. I highly recommend a stop at the candy store right across the street. That was the best cookies and cream ice cream bar of my life. Next up, Santiago peak!
