This was a really challenging and fun trail! We opted to take the Hunter Trail vs the Sunset Trail. The climb up to the saddle was very steady and had my lungs and calves burning! Once at the saddle, you descend down a steep 230 feet with the use of cables. Then it’s all uphill to the summit from there. There is no summit sign or marker but you’ll know when you’re there. We brought our own handmade sign (and packed it back out). There’s a lot of spots that are somewhat sketchy but with the use of cables you’ll be fine! If you don’t like heights and ledges this one might get a little tricky for you. We didn’t bring gloves and never once thought I needed them. I saw them being sold at the ranger station for a few bucks though on the way in! Parking is $7. The trail was in great condition and super well marked. We went on a Monday morning and the trail and parking lot were empty. It was perfect! There’s a gas station and Dairy Queen right across the street from the highway exit, what more could you ask for after a fun hike!?
