This was my second time hiking Mount Baden-Powell from Vincent Gap. We arrived around 7:45am and there were still a few spots available in the parking lot. Weather was great. Some clouds, light breeze, not too hot. The trail was clear. Although there were many cars in the lot, we didn’t find the trail to be too crowded. I noticed something new on our way down from the peak. As we were passing the Wally Waldron tree, we stopped to take a quick group photo. That’s when I noticed on one of the trunks a small metal plate screwed into the tree with an inscription. The plate was weathered and it was pretty far up so I couldn’t get a good picture of it to make out the full text. My best guess at the inscription is “This tree is dedicated to my Jane, loving wife, mother, my lover of life. May her spirit dwell …” and that’s as much as I could make out of it. On my next visit to this tree, I may try to get a better look at this plate.
